BIE General Assembly Approves the Siège Agreement (SEE Agreement) for Expo 2030 Riyadh

Paris / Riyadh, 16 June 2026 – The 178th General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) marked a major milestone in the preparations for Expo 2030 Riyadh with the approval of the Siège Agreement (SEE Agreement), further advancing the institutional and organizational framework for hosting the World Expo.

The SEE Agreement establishes the legal framework governing participation in Expo 2030 Riyadh, ensuring the rights, privileges, and conditions afforded to official participants under the BIE framework. Its approval represents a key step in the institutional preparations for the Expo, reaffirming the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s readiness to advance across all organizational and operational tracks, while strengthening cooperation with the BIE and participating countries to deliver an exceptional edition of the World Expo.

The milestone was announced during the participation of the Saudi delegation at the General Assembly in Paris, led by His Excellency Adel Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Member of the Council of Ministers, Climate Envoy, and Commissioner General of Expo 2030 Riyadh.

During the meeting, His Excellency Adel Al-Jubeir expressed the Kingdom’s appreciation to the BIE and its Member States for their continued trust and partnership. He noted that Expo 2030 Riyadh will serve as a global platform that brings together countries, people, and ideas to foster dialogue, inspire collaboration, and encourage collective action toward a better future. He also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to working closely with the BIE and all participants to deliver a globally representative, impactful, and memorable Expo for generations to come.

The approval of the SEE Agreement reflects growing international confidence in the Kingdom’s vision and organizational capabilities. During the General Assembly, the Saudi delegation presented key updates on Expo 2030 Riyadh, including developments related to the Expo’s theme, progress on the masterplan, and ongoing site works, underscoring the steady advancement being achieved across planning, design, infrastructure, and operational readiness.

Talal Al-Marri, Chief Executive Officer of Expo 2030 Riyadh, highlighted the rapid progress being achieved across construction, infrastructure, and operational readiness, supported by strong partnerships and coordinated delivery. He noted that the project has entered a phase of integrated execution, with a clear focus on delivering a world-class Expo experience and creating a lasting legacy for Riyadh and future generations.

Expo 2030 Riyadh will take place from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031, bringing the world together in a global celebration of culture, innovation, and human ambition. Over six months, Saudi Arabia will offer a vibrant programme of cultural, entertainment, and immersive experiences, while participants from around the world will showcase their ideas, innovations, and visions for a more prosperous and sustainable future.
